A 65-year-old doctor was allegedly assaulted and robbed of cash and valuables by four unidentified men in northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area, police said Tuesday.

The victim, identified as P K Batra, is a resident of Premanand Colony here, they added.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday when the four men barged into Batra's house and fled away with cash and other valuable items after thrashing him, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Aslam Khan.

On Tuesday at around 12.30 am, Mohit, the victim's son, called police after he along with his mother returned home and saw his father lying on the bed with his hands tied, Khan added.

The accused persons had also stabbed him, the DCP said, adding that he was taken to a hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable.

The victim had gone to watch Ramleela but returned home before his family, Khan said.
