Eight people were killed and ten others injured when their van and a cargo vehicle collided head-on in the district today, police said.
The victims were proceeding in the mini van to Penukonda, about 70 km from here, to attend a marriage when their vehicle and the cargo van collided at Sattarupalli.
Under the impact, the mini van overturned, killing six people on the spot, a police official said.
Two others succumbed to injuries in hospital.
In all, 22 people from Lakkasanipalli and L Timmapuram villages were travelling in the van when the mishap occurred as the driver tried to overtake a two-wheeler, police said.

Penukonda MLA Parthasarathi visited the injured.
He said the families of the deceased covered under the the Prime Minister's social security insurance scheme PMJJBY coupled with a state government initiative would get Rs five lakh each while the others Rs two lakh as ex-gratia.
