Afghani man held with US dollars worth Rs 28 lakh at IGIA

An Afghan national was apprehended today at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here for allegedly trying to smuggle out US dollars worth over Rs 28.38 lakh.

Officials said the incident was reported at about 13:30 PM from the terminal-III of the airport when CISF officials detected the suspicious activity of the man, identified as F S Ahmad, who was travelling to Kabul.

They said he was made to undergo a thorough frisking which led to the recovery of a total of USD 41,500 (approximately Rs 28.38 lakh) and few Afghani and Indian currency from his person and baggage.

"He was later handed over to Customs authorities for further probe," they said.
