Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh here today visited the families of two persons who were killed in police firing while protesting against the alleged sacrilege of holy book Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Accompanied by the Congress Legislative Party Leader Sunil Jakhar and other senior party leaders and legislators, he attended and addressed the protest dharnas at several places saying he had come to share the grief of the family even as he appealed to the people of Punjab to maintain peace and harmony.
The Amritsar MP also alleged that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal "was himself responsible for whatever was happening in Punjab today" and asked him not to shed "crocodile tears" over these incidents.

He said, Badal by visiting 'Darbar Sahab' today after "setting Punjab on fire" cannot "wash off his sins of omission and commission" and people will hold him accountable for it.
Addressing the people who had staged a dharna at Baaja Khaana, Bhargadi and Bowal, Amarinder said, he had come there as a humble Sikh who was hurt over the sacrilege and the loss of innocent lives in the unprovoked firing on the protesters.
"I have not come here as a politician or a former Chief Minister, but as a humble and hurt Sikh along with my other colleagues to share your grief and anger", he told a crowd at Baja Khaana.
The former Punjab Chief Minister condemned "the unprovoked and indiscriminate police firing" on the innocent protesters which led to loss of life.
He demanded that the guilty cops should not only be dismissed from the service but also booked for murder.
Without naming anybody during his speeches, Capt Amarinder shared the concern of the protesters over the "misuse" of the Akal Takht.
He said the time has come when the sacred institution set up by the Sixth Master needed to be set free from those who were insulting it.
He said every Punjabi irrespective of his religion or caste was feeling hurt today over the desecration of the Holy book.
