Vice Chancellor Of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt General (retd) Zameeruddin Shah, today refuted allegation of using "threats and pressure tactics" to force former Registrar, Group Captain (retd) Shahruq Shamshad, to resign from the post last month.
Denying the former Registrar's allegations, the Vice Chancellor in a statement today said that his subordinates allegations are a "blatant lie".
He claimed that Shamshad had on his own "submitted his resignation on health grounds".
The Vice Chancellor said that the situation arose after it came to the light that the former Registrar's "Masters degree in Management was not recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
A day after his resignation, Shamshad had in a written complaint to the SSP of Aligarh alleged that he had been forced to resign "after the Vice Chancellor threatened to have me beaten up by the university's proctorial staff if I don't tender my resignation immediately".
In his complaint to the police, the former Registrar alleged that his resignation was "extracted under duress".
He also complained that the Civil Lines police station had refused to file his FIR when he approached them after the incident.
