Anurag Thakur chosen young global leader by WEF

Lok Sabha member and President of the BJP's youth wing Anurag Thakur has been chosen as one of the global young leaders by World Economic Forum (WEF) for this year.

WEF has recognised his contribution in the field of politics, sports and women empowerment while making the selection.

Other prominent Indians honoured include film director Farhan Akhtar, Wipro chief Azim Premji's son Rishad, EC and CEO of HCL Corporation Roshni Nadar Malhotra and ED of Piramal Industries Nandini Piramal.

Thakur is among the 14 Indians and three Pakistanis selected from South Asia.

WEF has selected 214 young global leaders from across the world and Thakur is the only awardee in the 'political and government' category.
 

The selection committee of YGL-2014 was headed by Jordanian Queen Rania Al Abdullah.

"I am humbled that a prestigious body like WEF has recognised my contribution in politics, sports and women empowerment. I am grateful to WEF for choosing me as YGL," Thakur said on his achievement.

Among other Indians selected by WEF are Sachin Bansal, CEO of Flipkart and Avani Davda, CEO of Tata Starbucks Limited.

Larry Page, co-founder Google and Mark Zuckerberg, founder, Facebook, have been honoured by WEF as young global leaders in the past.
