Rayachoty rural police nabbed as many as 72 labourers from the neighbouring Tamil Nadu early this morning in Chinnamandem police station limits in Kadapa district of Anhdra Pradesh and seized 1.5 tons of red sanders logs.

These workers, suspected to be involved in red sanders cutting, were from Villipuram and Selam districts of Tamil Nadu, additional superintendent of police K Anburajan told PTI.

Police stopped a bus carrying them at a naka-bandi (road blockade) at Chinnamandem. The driver tried to flee, but the police gave the bus chase and stopped it.

Police also claimed to have seized axes, saws, rice and cooking pots from the bus.

The seized red sanders logs are worth Rs 2 crore, police said, adding the men would be produced before the court tomorrow.
