Assam CM directs ministers to visit flood affected districts

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has directed all his cabinet ministers to visit affected areas, take stock of the flood situation, step up relief and rescue operations, and ensure proper facilities for the affected.

The chief minister did this while reviewing the state flood situation in a meeting held here today.

The chief minister directed the ministers to assess the damage caused by flood and erosion.

He also asked them to interact with the affected people and take stock of their needs.

Sonowal also directed the PWD minister to repair all roads in the state within the current month.

The chief minister also directed the water resources minister to take necessary steps including ensuring availability of anti-erosion materials for prompt action at the affected sites.
 

The flood situation in Assam has claimed 22 lives and affected 4.5 lakh people in 17 districts of Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon, Jorhat, Golaghat, Cachar, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Karimganj, Sonitpur, Majuli, Barpeta, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Morigaon, Hailakandi and Chirang.

The state government has opened 181 relief camps and centres for the succour of over 20,000 inmates.
