Assam teacher arrested for sexually harassing class 8 student

A teacher of a government school was arrested on Thursday in Assam's Sonitpur district on the charge of alleged sexual harassment of a girl student, police said.

The accused teacher of the school at Gutlung area was arrested after a complaint was lodged by the class VIII student, District Deputy Superintendent of Police Rashmi Rekha Sarma said.

Local people on Thursday gheraoed the school and launched an agitation, demanding strong action against the accused.

The incident came to light when the girl complained to her parents a few days ago, police said.
