Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today hit out at Rahul Gandhi over his allegation that the government invented a story on "data theft" by the Congress to divert attention from the death of 39 Indians in Iraq, saying it showed his hollowness.

Badal also said that the government wanted to share details about the death of the Indians and it was the Congress which allegedly created ruckus when External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj tried to make a statement in Parliament on Tuesday.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad yesterday alleged that the Congress planned to use services of a firm, Cambridge Analytica, for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and boost Gandhi's profile.

The firm is accused of illegally harvesting personal information from Facebook to influence polls in several countries.

"This shows his (Gandhi's) hollowness and childishness. The EAM wanted to make a statement in the Lok Sabha and the Congress party (members) created noise, not allowing her to speak, countered Badal as she spoke to news channel NDTV outside Parliament.

She accused Gandhi of levelling allegations as the "truth" about the alleged data theft has come to the fore.

"This showed how in desperation Rahul Gandhi ji joined hands with such companies, so to run away from this, such baseless allegations are being made, Badal added.
