Bench and Bar should function as co-partners: Madras HC ACJ

Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court Justice Satish K.Agnihotri today underscored the need for co-ordinated functioning of the Bench and the Bar in administration of justice, saying they were two sides of the same coin.

Declaring open the Rs eight crore integrated court complex Phase Two here, he voiced concern over "aberrations" since recently in several parts of the country where bench and the bar did not act together.

"If there is any aberration one could not expect proper dispensation of justice," he said.

Chief Minister N Rangasamy said very soon one more structure to accommodate criminal courts would come up very close to the present structures.
 

Rangasamy pleaded for consideration of lawyers from Puducherry for appointment of Judges in the Madras High Court through special reservation for the Union Territory.

He said The work for construction of building for the court in Karaikal would commence soon.

He also said the government would set up a Lawyers Welfare Fund and would also provide financial assistance to the young lawyers at Rs 2,000 a month.
