Big haul of smuggled items by customs in Kochi airport

In a big haul of smuggled items, air Intelligence unit of the Customs today seized 14 kg of saffron, 110 cartons of cigarettes and gold bars weighing two kg from three different passengers who arrived at the airport here from Dubai.

While 14 kg of saffron valued at Rs 14 lakh was seized from one Muhammed Afsal Achanichi of Kozhikode district when he arrived here this morning, a total of 110 cartons of cigarettes valued at Rs 1.76 lakh was seized from Abdul Rahiman of Kasaragod district, a customs release said.

Two gold bars each weighing one kg and totally valued at Rs 55.98 lakh were seized from Abdul Nasser Kolavayal of Kasargod.
 

The seizures were effected from the passengers, who arrived by Emirates flights, under the supervision of S Subramanian, Chief Commissioner of Customs, and other senior officers, the release said.
