Bihar witnesses rain due to cyclone 'Hudhud'

State capital Patna and many other districts of Bihar today witnessed rain as an impact of cyclone 'Hudhud' but there was no report of casualty so far.

Patna and rest of Bihar experienced light to moderate rainfall as impact of Hudhud cyclone, Director State Meteorology department R K Giri told PTI.

The weather situation would continue like this till tomorrow and some districts in North and Northwest of the state like Champaran, Muzaffarpur and Siwan could witness heavy rainfall tomorrow, Giri said.

The state MeT department director said that wind blew in the state at an average speed of 20-25 km per hour.
 

According to weather office, Patna recorded 2.3 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8 AM in the morning.

Marhaura in Saran district witnessed 39 mm rains during the last 24 hours while it was 41 mm in Ramnagar and 38 mm in Bagha, it said.

But, there was no immediate report of any casualty so far, Principal Secretary Disaster Management Department Vyasji said.

He said the state is on alert.

Commandant of 9th battalion of NDRF Vijay Sinha said that four teams, each comprising 40 personnel, have been kept ready in the event of any major casualty due to inclement weather triggered by hudhud cyclone.

Regular downpour has affected life in Patna with major roads witnessing thin traffic.
