BSF today stopped 23 Bangladeshis who were seeking to enter India from Asharambari in Khowai district of Tripura following a clash in their village.

BSF Inspector General B N Sharma said 23 villagers assembled near the barbed wire fencing near Baonbazar border outpost in Khowai.

Hailing from bordering Jawaicherra village of Habiganj district of Bangladesh, they requested the BSF to allow them entry into Indian side, he said.

However, BSF did not allow them to enter and they returned after sometime, Sharma said.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were alerted by BSF, he said, adding he was not aware of any communal clash in Bangladesh.

BSF and BGB held a flag meeting later.
