Two bullocks fell into a water- filled well here in Gujarat and while one died, the other was rescued by villagers, an official said Friday.
The incident took place Thursday evening in Amroli village under Nasvadi tehsil of Vadodara district.
The bullocks were tied to a plough and fell into the 60 feet deep well dug in a cotton field apparently after they panicked on seeing a snake, Jemubhai Rathwa, village head (sarpanch), said.
Rathwa said he contacted the local mamlaatdar (revenue official) and a veterinary doctor, and sought their help in rescuing the animals, but did not get any assistance from them.
"So a tractor was brought to the site for pulling out the bullocks from the wellwith the help of ropes," he said.
Around 200 people from the village took part in the rescue operation which lasted for nearly two-and-a-half hours, the sarpanch said.
However, one of the bullocks had died, while the other one was pulled out alive, he added.
