YSR Congress candidate B Shobha Nagi Reddy today created history of sorts by posthumously winning the Allagadda Assembly segment in this district.

Shobha had died in a road accident after the last day of withdrawal of nominations but, riding a sympathy wave with her children campaigning for her, she has emerged victorious by a margin of more than 16,000 votes. Her husband Bhuma Nagi Reddy, also a YSR Congress nominee, won from the Nandyal Assembly segment.

Election Commission had refused to countermand the election to the Allagadda seat on the grounds that YSRCP was a registered party and not a recognised one.

Also, it refused to remove Shobha's name from the list of contestants.

EC had said that the name of the deceased will be part of the ballots for elections in Allagadda and, in the event she gets the majority votes, a re-election will be ordered.
