CBI arrests top Shipping Ministry official for accepting bribe

A senior official of the Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships, under the Shipping Ministry, was arrested by CBI's Anti-Corruption Branch sleuths here while allegedly accepting kickbacks from a contractor.

K Sakthi, Deputy Director, Directorate of Lighthouses and Lightships, was arrested while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a contractor late last night, a statement by the CBI said.

He was produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI cases, who remanded him to judicial custody.

The CBI registered a case and laid a trap for the official following a complaint from the contractor that he demanded bribe for granting a contract and releasing payment for additional work done by him.
