Centre will amend the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954 to ensure that the consumers get adulteration-free food, Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ramvilas Paswan said here today.

"The trend of packaged and fast food has caught up in India. There is a need to prevent adulteration of such eatables. The Centre will bring amendment in the law to ensure that consumers get adulteration-free food," Paswan said.

The statement came in the backdrop of the controversy over Maggi noodles in which lead and Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) were detected beyond their prescribed limits.
