A chemical manufacturing unit located at Taloja MIDC in neighbouring Raigad district was gutted in a major fire that broke out there this evening, but no loss of life was reported, a fire brigade official said.
"The fire broke out at the chemical unit around 4.30 pm. Ten fire engines from Taloja and nearby Panvel, Kalamboli were rushed to the scene and the blaze was brought under control by around 6 pm," the official from Taloja Fire Station said.
"Although no loss of life or casualty was reported in the incident, the entire unit was reduced to ashes," he added.
The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained and cooling operations were still on.
