: The transport Department has embarked on preparing a 'Comprehensive Mobility Plan' for Puducherry region to have desirable accessibility and mobility pattern for people and goods to achieve safe, secure, efficiency and reliable connectivity.
Transport Commissioner S D Sundaresan said in a release here today that preparation of the plan was being done in association with Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System Limited, a Joint Venture of the National Capital Territory of Delhi and Infrastructure Development and Finance company.
He said Puducherry has been identified as one of the urbanized territories in the country as the Union Territory now has 8.34 lakh registered motor vehicles as on October 31, 2014. Every year 60,000 vehicles are added, congesting the narrow roads.

Sundaresan said the Delhi firm has commenced traffic and household surveys and urged stakeholders and public to extend full cooperation to the officials concerned to give required data to help prepare the plan for all socio economic groups.
He said public were also welcome to give suggestions till Dec 3 for improving the traffic system. Suggestions can also be sent through e mail to transport commissioner (tc.Pon@nic.In), he said.
