Harsh Sharma, Congress sitting councilor from Kashmere Gate today quit the party and joined the BJP.

Sharma, who had defeated BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra in 2012 MCD elections, joined the party in the presence of its Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari.

Patra, who worked as a medical officer at Hindu Rao hospital, had quit the job in 2011 and contested the MCD polls next year from Kashmere Gate ward in North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Congress had not fielded Sharma in the April 23 MCD polls.

He represented Kashmere Gate ward which was merged with the Chandni Chowk and the Civil Lines wards after delimitation, said a Congress leader.

Sharma's spouse Uma Sharma was also a councilor from Kashmere Gate ward between 2007 and 2012.

Apart from Sharma, other Congressmen including Shiv Kumar Sondhi, Rajan Barara, and Raju Rawal also joined the BJP.
