The Puducherry unit of the Congress today charged the Rangasamy-led AINRC government here with "being sluggish in assessing the damages farmers suffered in the recent torrential rains in Puducherry."

PCC President A Namassivayam, MLA, said in a release here today that he along with AICC general secretaries Mukul Wasnik (in charge of Congress party affairs in Puducherry) V.Narayanasamy, leader of the opposition V Vaithilingam and PCC office bearers visited the rain ravaged villages yesterday.

He said paddy crops ready for harvest were submerged in the rain water. Tapioca, plantain crops and betel leaves were also submerged.

Namassivayam alleged that no official or ministers had visited the rain hit pockets.
