Cong workers celebrate Sonia's birthday in Amethi

Congress leaders and workers celebrated party president Sonia Gandhi's birthday here today.

Sonia Gandhi, who is set to hand over the party's mantle to her son Rahul Gandhi after steering it for 19 years, today turned 71.

Congress workers in Amethi, the bastion of the Gandhi family, decked up party offices and cut cakes.

District Congress president Yogendra Mishra said that Rahul Gandhi would do well after he takes over the party reins from his mother.

Rahul Gandhi represents Amethi in Parliament.
