Opposition Congress in Uttarakhand today held a rally in Roorkee against theBJP governments in the state and at the Centre, accusing them of "not fulfilling even a single" poll promise.

The rally, led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh, traversed a distance of about 2 km through the town beforeconcludingat the sub-divisional office.

Senior party leaders such as former chief minister Harish Rawat, Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Indira Hridayesh, and former PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay also participated in the rally.

Singh termed the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre as "anti-people" and "anti-farmer" as, he said, it had not fulfilled the promise of giving a loan waiver to farmers.

"Even the BJP government in the state has not been able to ensure payment of dues to the sugarcane growers despite more than a year in the office ," Singh said, adding that the BJP governments both in the state and at the Centre "had not kept even a single pre-poll promise made to the electorate".

Price rise is at its worst with petrol prices rising steadily, he said, terming it as "anti-people".

Rawat called the dispensation "a government of slogans" which had "failed to deliver" and asked people to reposed faith in the Congress.

Hridayesh said the insult of a woman teacher by the chief minister during a Janata Darbar indicated that it was a government which can "only insult women".

At the Janata Darbar' of the chief minister in Dehradun last month, the principal of a primary government school in Nagaon area of Uttarkashi district had made a transfer request. The chief minister ordered her arrest and suspension after she allegedly used abusive language in front of him.
