A civil construction contractor and a villager were killed in separate incidents by Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said today.

While the contractor, identified as Jaidev, was killed in Bhansi area, the 60-year-old villager, Linga Kunjum, was killed in Kuakonda police station area, Dantewada Additional Superintendent of Police Gorakhnath Baghel told PTI.

"Contractor Jaidev was hacked to death today with sharp weapons after a group of Naxals stormed a site in Masapara in Bhansi where labourers were constructing a culvert. They also torched a tipper truck, a tractor and a concrete mixer," he said.

Jaidev was a member of the local panchayat apart from being a construction contractor, he said.

Kunjam, the official said, was killed at his home yesterday night in Phulpad village after Naxals accused him of being a police informer.

Baghel informed that security forces were combing the area to track down the Naxals involved in these two incidents.
