Mumbai police have issued an advisory to hospitals in the city regarding 'planned treatment' of patients arriving in India on tourist visa.

Foreign nationals on tourist visa must obtain a proper medical visa for any planned treatment (against emergency treatment) at hospitals, a police official said.

"Advisory for the same has been sent to all hospitals in Mumbai," said DCP Dr Rashmi Karandikar, who is the city police's spokesperson.

For any planned treatment, medical visa is necessary, she said.

If a foreigner on tourist visa falls sick after arrival, rendering him or her unable to travel and requiring specialised emergency medical treatment, tourist visa can be converted into medical visa, she said.
