Cotton production is estimated to be 405.50 lakh bales in 2014-15 season against 407.25 lakh bales last year due to slight decline in productivity in Gujarat, an industry body said.
Total crop in Gujarat this year is estimated at 126 lakh bales compared to 129.25 lakh bales (of 170 kg each) last year, the Cotton Association of India (CAI) said.
The projected balance sheet drawn by the CAI for the year 2014-15, estimated total cotton supply at 477.40 lakh bales while domestic consumption is estimated at 306.00 lakh bales, thus leaving an available surplus of 171.40 lakh bales.
In its September estimates, CAI had placed the crop output in 2014-15 season to be 403.75 lakh bales.
