Four Maoists, two of them carrying rewards on their heads, were arrested while as many surrendered in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Dantewada district here today, the police said.

The Maoist cadres were apprehended from the restive forests by a joint squad of security forces during an anti-Maoist operation, Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamlochan Kashyap told PTI.

A team of the district police force and the Central Reserve Police Force was dispatched towards Bedma and Bhansi region, located around 450 km away from the state capital for a combing exercise.

When security forces were cordoning off Bade Bedma village forests, they nabbed three suspects namely Hurra Kunjam, Kunjami Joga and Madkami Joga who were allegedly keeping an eye on the movement of security personnel, while later one Shankar Baghel was caught from the Gamawada forests under Bhanis police station limits, the SP said.

Bedma Janmilitia commander Hurra and Janmilitia member Kunjami were carrying cash reward of Rs 10,000 each on their heads, he said.

They were involved in several Maoist incidents, including damaging government properties, loot, arson and attacks on security forces and others, he said.

In a separate incident, four Maoists identified as Kumma Barsa, Sukhram Barsa, Laxman Bhaskar and Sudru Barsa turned themselves in before the police, citing disappointment with exploitation by senior rank cadres, Kashyap said.

They were active as members of the banned Dandakarnya Adivasi Kisan Morcha Sangthan in the region, he said.
