A 19-year-old girl died while a youth was struggling for life after the couple consumed poison and were left at the Bhimgang Mandi police station here by an auto rickshaw driver, police said today.

Jyoti Rajput and Shyam Sunder (25), both residents of Ghantiyali village in Jodhpur district, had eloped earlier this month and got married, police said.

The couple, who had been staying here for five days, allegedly consumed poison last evening and hired an auto rickshaw. But when driver noticed the couple vomiting, he left them at Bhimgangmandi police station, SHO Harish Bharti said.

After getting off the auto rickshaw they collapsed at the main gate of the police station, he said, adding the couple were rushed to the hospital where the girl died during treatment while the youth's condition was stated to be serious.

Affidavits with stamp and signature of notary claiming that Jyoti Rajput and Shyam Sunder to have solemnised marriage were recovered from them, Sub-Inspector Bharat Singh said.

The body of the girl has been sent for post mortem while the statement of the youth would be recorded once his condition improves, Singh said, adding the auto rickshaw driver has also not been traced so far.

The parent of the deceased girl have accused the youth of kidnapping, raping and murdering Jyoti. But no case have been lodged yet. A probe is underway, the SI said.
