CPI today deplored BJP for its efforts to "destabilise" a duly elected Uttarakhand government and likened the episode to the one in Arunachal Pradesh, saying there is "pattern" in which the NDA major operates to "disrupt" dispensation of other parties.

"What is happening is BJP's political game. They did it in Arunachal, now they are doing it in Uttarakhand. There is a pattern in which they operate to disrupt non-BJP governments. It is deplorable," CPI national secretary D Raja said.

As the political crisis in Uttarakhand deepened, Congress today expelled former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna's son Saket Bahuguna and party joint secretary Anil Gupta for six years for "anti-party" activities.

Saket was among the nine MLAs who rebelled against the Harish Rawat government.

Before the crisis unfolded, the Congress had 36 MLAs in the 70-member Assembly. The ruling party also has the support of siux members of the Progressive Democratic Front, while opposition BJP has 28 MLAs.
