Ruling CPI(M) in Tripura today demanded that Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Sudip Roy Burman and his predecessor Ratan Lal Nath should resign as MLAs if they fail to prove that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was "involved" in the assassination of the former Health Minister Bimal Sinha.
"We challenge them to prove their allegations or they would have to resign. The (Justice Yusuf) Commission has no charge against the Chief Minister," CPI(M) state Committee Secretary Bijan Dhar said.
Sinha and his brother Bidyut were assassinated by the insurgents of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) on March 31, 1998 at Kamalpur in Dhalai district.
The Left Font Government appointed an inquiry commission by a retired Calcutta High Court Justice M A Yusuf, which submitted its report in January 2000. The report was presented in the Assembly on March 23 following an order of the Tripura High Court.
Commenting on the Yusuf Commission report, Roy Barman and Nath yesterday alleged that Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was involved in the killing.
