Press Trust of India Puducherry
: CPI(M) today demanded that steps be taken on a war footing to fill vacancies in teachers posts in various government schools in the Union Territory.

Party's local unit secretary R Rajangam said that the students wing of the party, along with parents association had been staging several 'democratically justified demonstrations' seeking steps to fill the posts.

The students wing had also been requesting the government to ensure undelayed distribution of uniforms, school books and other amenities in government schools. Instead of conceding them, police had of late been on a hunt to arrest the activists, he said in a release

"This trend of intimidating the activists is highly objectionable and should it continue, CPI(M) will mobilise people's support and launch agitations", he said.
