BJP blamed "political goondas" of the CPI(M) for the murder of its worker in Kerala today with party chief Amit Shah seeking a CBI probe and urging political leaders to condemn the killing.

"Kannur has been the centre of Marxist violence in Kerala. The continuous violence against people in the native village of the state's Chief Minister underlines the government's ideology. We demand that the Kerala government hand over the probe into the murder to the CBI," Shah said in a statement.

Remith, a 25-year-old BJP worker, was hacked to death allegedly by CPI(M) activists in the hometown of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in politically-sensitive Kannur district less than 48 hours after the murder of a Marxist cadre.

Shah asked leaders of all political parties to condemn the murder, saying violence should have no place in a democratic country.

"As political parties with different ideologies, we can have differences, but only those parties resort to violence who want to run away from a debate with rivals," he said.

Everybody knows that the intensity of attacks against our workers has increased of late because they are on the verge of a big success, he said.

BJP spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao told a press conference that the party has no faith in the state police and the Left government as he sought a CBI probe into the killing.

The Left parties are "unnerved" following the "successful" conclave of the BJP's National Council in the state recently and the incidents of violence against the saffron workers have been on the rise since they came to power as they see BJP as a major force, he said.

"He has been hacked to death by political goondas of the Left. A systematic witch hunt has been started by them against our workers. The CPI(M) has unleashed political terrorism against us. Is this the democracy it believes it?" he said at a press conference.

"We demand that the case be handed over to the CBI," Rao said.

Paying homage to his party's workers, Shah said they have strongly fought against "political goondas".
