Former Agriculture Minister and Puducherry state CPI Secretary R Viswanathan was among the seven candidates who filed their nominations today for the April 24 Lok Sabha election to the lone seat from the Union territory.
Viswanathan and six independents filed their papers before the Returning officer S B Deepak Kumar.
With this, the total number of nominations filed so far has risen to 14, electoral authorities said.
This is the first time after a gap of 37 years that CPI is contesting the Parliamentary poll here without an alliance with non-Left parties.
