Cultural events play a vital role in bridging the gaps among people, Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra said.

"Cultural events build bridge of deeper understandings and promote cultural linkages and harmony among the people of our vast country," Vohra said after inaugurating 'The Octave Festival-2013' at the Hargobind Bhatnagar Stadium, BSF Campus, Paloura here last evening.

More than 250 folk artists from Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are participating in the three-day cultural extravaganza, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the North East states of the country.

The event has been organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, in collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur, Border Security Force and the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.

Vohra hoped that wonderful cultural performances would also be organised at other places in the state for the benefit of the people and assured all possible support for the purpose.
