The police today claimed that the deceased middle-aged tribal woman, whose mutilated body was retrieved from an abandoned house at a deserted place in a CDA slum area here yesterday, is a victim of gang-rape and murder.

It was also revealed that the injured youth, who was sent for immediate medical attention, is one of the co-accused in the heinous crime.

Speaking to newsmen here, city DCP S Praveen Kumar said medical examination and the postmortem report indicated that the 45-year-old victim had been gang-raped and later strangulated by the accused.

"Two persons are arrested in this connection and they have confessed the guilt," the DCP said ruling out any further arrests in this connection.

The DCP said that the victim along with one accused Satyabrata Naik (35) and the latter's wife had consumed handia on Wednesday morning. Heavily intoxicated, the victim fell down injuring her head. She was then taken to a government hospital by Naik and another accused Sashi Mandei alias Singh for treatment.

After preliminary treatment, when they were returning to their slum, accused Naik and Mandei took the woman to the abandoned house and raped her in the afternoon.

"When the victim protested, they killed her strangulating with the woman's saree," police said adding blood was oozing out from her face and nose.

Mandei, however, sustained injury in his tongue when he fell down while running away from the spot after committing the crime.

"Both the accused have undergone medical examination and they would be forwarded to court tomorrow," the DCP informed.
