Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement today warned of intensifying agitation, if the State government failed to lift the ban on toddy tapping and its sale on the lines of Bihar and Kerala.
Reiterating its claim that toddy was not an intoxicating drink, the movement in a statement said toddy tapping and sales were guaranteed under Indian Constitution, which was deprived in Tamil Nadu for the last 29 years.
The movement was fighting for the cause for the last 10 years, its Coordinator S Nallasamy said in the statement.

Stating that Bihar, which declared prohibition from April last in the State, allowed sales of toddy, Nallasamy said that even in Kerala, despite the decision to bring in prohibition in phases, there was no no restrictions on toddy sales.
Urging the state government to lift the ban on toddy, on the lines of Kerala and Bihar, Nallasamy warned of an intensified agitation if the government failed to announce a 'favourable' decision immediately.
