A dismissed police officer has been held for allegedly killing his relatives at Kankidih village in Patamda block of East Singhbhum district here, police said today.

"Shashibhusan Singh Sardar, who killed his relatives over a dispute involving money was arrested from Chano village last Wednesday. During interrogation, he confessed to have killed his maternal aunt Jyotsna Singh Sardar (40) and her husband Banmali Singh Sardar (65), a retired teacher," SP (Rural) Shailendra Prasad Burnwal said.

The SP said, "The accused had demanded Rs 60,000 from Banmali and was even assured of getting the amount. When the victims failed to give him the money, he killed them."

"Shashibhusan stayed back at Banmali's place after attending a social function with him. It was during his stay that he killed his aunt, Jyotsna, with a sharp weapon and dumped her body in a nearby well. He later killed Banmali in his sleep," the officer said.

"After getting the information, a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ajay Kerketta rushed to the spot and recovered the decomposed body of Banmali Singh Sardar. His wife's body was recovered a week later," he said.

"While the body of the retired teacher was recovered from a room of his house, the body of his wife Jyotsna was recovered from a nearby well," Burnwal said.

A case has been registered in this regard and investigation is underway, he said.

On being asked the reason behind Shashibhusan's dismissal, the SP said, "he remained absconding from his duty repeatedly dispite several warnings following which he was dismissed."

The accused had joined as a police constable in 2009 in East Singhbhum district and got dismissed in 2011, Burnwal said.
