Efforts will be made to end corruption: Manpreet

The Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government is committed to make the dreams of martyrs' come true and will put an end to the corruption, unemployment, illiteracy and drugs, Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said today.

He paid tributes to Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev Singh, Raj Mata Vidyawati and Battukeshwar Dutt and hundreds of other unsung heroes of the freedom struggle at the martyrs' memorial at Hussainiwala.

Addressing a state-level function held on the occasion, Badal said races that forget their martyrs never flourish and slip into the oblivion of history.

He said that the people of state have shown great belief in the Amarinder Singh-led Congress government.
 

On the occasion, Badal also announced that the state government will spend Rs four crore on beautification and modernisation of the memorial at Hussainiwala border.

He said that there are tough challenges before Punjab and the country.

"These challenges can be met with only when we work together, think together," he further added.

He also revealed that the state government will be organising a state-level function to commemorate Baisakhi at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar on April 13, 2017.

Manpreet said that the industries will be set up in the border districts to provide means of livelihood and employment to the people here, which will also propel state's economy.
