Elephant injures forest personnel

A forest personnel was injured by a herd of wild elephants that ventured into the Bhandiguri tea garden area in Jalpaiguri district.

Jalpaiguri forest division DFO Bidyut Sarcar said a herd of wild elephants came to the tea garden area and wrecked havoc yesterday.

A team of forest personnel tried to drive away the herd of pachyderms to the forest when one elephant attacked range officer Sanjay Dutta with its tusks.

The forest team resorted to firing following which the herd went inside the nearby Baikantupur forest leaving Dutta.

He was admitted to the hospital with minor injuries and later discharged, Sarcar said.
