Students of 3300 schools across Assam on Saturday received a lesson on evacuation drills in case of fire or earthquakes, official sources said.
The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) along with other agencies conducted the event to aware the stakeholders of making the school environment safer.
The Great Assam School Shake-out programme covered 100 schools in each of the 33 districts of the state, the sources said.
Through the mock drill exercise, students and teachers were sensitized on safety measures required during incidents of fire or earthquake during school hours.
The programme has been organized to commemorate the Great Assam Earthquake of 1950, that caused massive loss of life and property, they said.
Besides the ASDMA, education department, fire and emergency services, the NDRF and civil defence took part in the programme.
