Ex-head of Marathi dept of Shivaji University found murdered

Dr Krishna Kirawale, retired head of the Marathi department of Shivaji University at Kolhapur in western Maharashtra, was found murdered at his house in the city today, police said.

His body with several stab wounds was found at his house in Hudco Colony near the University this afternoon. He was alone at home at the time of murder, said the officers of Rajarampuri police station here.

The officers didn't comment on possible motive behind the brutal murder, saying that probe was on.

Inspector General of Police (Kolhapur range) Vishwas Nangare-Patil and other senior police officers visited the crime scene.

Dr Kirawale, who was known as a follower of Dr B R Ambedkar, was also the head of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Centre for Research and Development of the varsity for some period before he retired two years ago.
