Explosives worth Rs 1 lakh seized

The Ponduru police of Srikakulam district seized explosives worth Rs 1 lakh on Sunday, a police official said.

According to the Ponduru police sub-inspector, one Sunkari Ganapathi (24) from Konchada village of Ponduru mandal, illegally transported explosives in his autorickshaw.

While conducting vehicle checks near Lolugu village junction, the police seized 600 electrical detonators, 1,000 non-electrical detonators, 200 kg of gelatin sticks and 1,830 metres of fuse wire together valued at Rs 1 lakh from the autorickshaw, the police official said.

After Ganapathi failed to produce any valid license or any permit for use of explosives, the police took him into custody and seized the explosives along with his autorickshaw, the police official said.
 

A case has been registered against him and he will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate of the First Class Court at Rajam in Srikakulam district, the police official said.
