Fake currency racketeer arrested in UP

A man has been arrested for allegedly operating a fake currency racket, police said today.

Ali Ahmad alias Dr Sameer was arrested near Charbagh bus station here last evening by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police and fake Indian currency was recovered from his possession, a police spokesperson said.

Ali had been arrested with fake currency along with two accomplices in April 2010 as well. He, however, had managed to escape in 2011 while being taken to court.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that he had been running the fake currency racket for last 10 years, the spokesperson said.
 

"The accused revealed that they used to procure the fake Indian currencies from Kathmandu and Veerganj in Nepal. His racket was spread in different districts of West Bengal, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Gujarat," he said.
