Press Trust of India Chennai
: Madras High Court today directed police to file within three weeks a status report on a petition seeking a CB-CID probe into the suicide of a lawyer, allegedly because of mental harassment.

M Manoharan (51) submitted that his son Tamilvanan was staying here in the house of a family friend, where he was 'exploited to the core and treated like a servant".As such, he purchased a house for his son at Urapakkam area.

This angered the friend, who pressurized Tamilvanan to return. He refused and started practicing as a lawyer from 2012.As Mohankrishnan had some pending cases,he approached his son. After these were disposed off, he accused him of cheating him by taking a huge amount as legal fees, the petitioner said.

On March 11 around 12.30 PM, he called Tamilvanan and shouted at him for a long time, after which the former went home early. Mohankrishnan again called him that evening and abused him. Around 7 PM Tamilvanan committed suicide by hanging. He recorded his final moments in his laptop and cell phone, the petitioner submitted.

He contended that police was not conducting a fair probe, and sought transfer of the case to an independent agency.

Justice P N Prakash noted that police were conducting investigation and had arrested one accused. "Police is directed to continue investigation and file a status report within three weeks," the court said.
