The Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital here today claimed to have successfully conducted the first ever Bone Marrow Transplantation in Odisha.
The patient, who underwent the process, also known as Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, over three weeks ago, has recovered well and was doing fine, department head Prabodh Kumar Das told reporters here.
"This was the first ever BMT undertaken in Odisha and the process was successful," he said.

The hospital has been making rapid strides towards becoming one of Odisha's most sought after healthcare centres providing affordable treatment to which there has been recent addition of the Department of Hematology and Stem Cell Transplantation, he said.
