Fishermen net ancient panchaloha idol off Nagapattinam coast

Two fishermen netted an antique panchaloha idol of Lord Shiva while fishing in Kollidam backwaters, police said today.

The fishermen from Kollidam in the district found the idol weighing about 4-kg in their fishing net yesterday and handed it over at the police, they said.

The idol of Lord Shiva in sitting posture, is about 1-feet tall and appears ancient.

The idol is now kept at the Kollidam police station.

Further details about the idol would be known only after examination by archaeological experts, police said.
