The Indian Coast Guard today said it has rescued five Indian fishermen in distress off Rameswaram in two separate incidents.
ICG ship Rajtarang rescued five fishermen and two boats in seperate incidents on Wednesday and the wee hours of today after receiving distress messages, a Coast Guard release said.
The round-the-clock presence of an ICG ship at Palk Bay helped providing timely assistance to the distressed boats, it added.

Meanwhile, a Kozhikode report said the Coast Guard Station (CGS) conducted a coastal clean up at nearby Beypore.
Nearly 100 personnel from Coast Guard Station Beypore, Coast Guard ships and the public, including children from nearest coastal area, participated in the event in which about two tonne of debris were collected and disposed off at a safe place, an ICGS release said.
