Fog disrupts normal life, Amritsar coldest at 0.4 C

A thick blanket of fog disrupted normal life at many places as there was no let up in the cold wave conditions sweeping most parts of Punjab and Haryana for the past several days, with Amritsar again reeling under severe chill at 0.4 degrees Celsius.

A MeT official said here that fog also reduced visibility this morning at places including Amritsar, Patiala and Ludhiana in Punjab and at Ambala, Karnal, Kurukshetra among other places in Haryana while misty conditions prevailed at some other places in the region.

Amritsar again was the coldest place in the two states recording a four degrees below normal minimum temperature, the official said.
 

While Amritsar's minimum was identical to the one recorded yesterday, Adampur in Jalandhar district registered a low of 0.5 deg C, a slight decrease since yesterday.

Ludhiana and Patiala, too, experienced the chill recording respective below normal lows of 5.4 deg C and 6.2 deg C.

Biting cold conditions continued at Hisar, which turned out to be the coldest place in Haryana at a low of 2.1 deg C, down three notches while Narnaul's minimum settled at 2.5 deg C.

Bhiwani also reeled under piercing cold recording below normal minimum of 4 deg C while Ambala registered a minimum temperature of 7.5 deg C.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two states, also experienced a cold night at 5.7 deg C. Foggy conditions prevailed this morning on the outskirts of the City.
