Foodgrains meant for distribution to BPL families in Delhi are being sold in the black market despite a stringent mechanism in place to prevent such things, a private news channel, which carried out a sting operation, claims.

Wheat priced at Rs 2 to 7 per kg is being sold in the black market to private flour mills at Rs 14 to 16 per kg, according to a release issued by the group on behalf of 'Aaj Tak' and 'Headlines Today'.

Despite stringent monitoring trucks carrying PDS supplies to ration shops were diverted to private flour mills, the release claimed.

It said the route of the trucks is monitored by officials of the Delhi government and enforcement department from the time they leave FCI godowns and reach their destination.

The release said several trucks reached the premises of private flour mills in Lawrence Road and other areas.

While police was prompt in taking action on the complaint of the reporters involved in the sting, there has been no progress in the case.

It claimed the diversion of food grain took place with the connivance of officials of food and civil supplies department, the enforcement department, police and traders.
